A play day is similar to a horse show but it's primarily a competition with speed events. While watching the lessons you probably have heard terms such as: Birangle, Skill Barrels, Poles, Keyhole etc. These are the names of the patterns for the speed events. Barrels, Poles and Flags are the three main events. Optional refers to the last class and it can be any of the patterns we have been learning in the lessons (Birangle, Skill Barrels, Speed Barrels, In Line Barrels, Keyhole etc.) Usually you won't know what the optional pattern will be until the day of the play day. It kind of makes it a surprise. Exhibition is a practice run, it doesn't count for the actual play day points, it's just a practice run. Due to the limited amount of horses each student may do one exhibition run. It's not required but if they are nervous they should do an exhibition run to boost their confidence. How to sign up It would be great if everyone could sign up at their lesson the week before the date of the play day but with hectic family life I know that might not happen. The sign up sheets will be available at lessons but you may also sign up the day of the play day. If you are planning on signing up the day of the play day let Karen know so she can schedule the horses and riders accordingly. If you don't your student may be riding a horse they didn't practice on. In an actual play day at a round up club they split the competition into age groups. We will be splitting them into riding levels at our play days. You won't have to worry about deciding what level they should enter because Karen will all ready have that done for you. |
